Use of dimethylglyoxime for the spectrophotometric flow-based determination of nickel in natural waters

A spectrophotometric flow-based method for the determination of nickel in recreational waters is proposed. In this scenario, strategy was to devise a miniaturized and automatic system based on sequential injection analysis, aiming an expeditious, real-time low-cost determination. For determination, dimethylglyoxime used as color reagent due its selectivity nickel. Considering expected low concentration sensitivity coloured reaction, long pathlength flow cell increase sensitivity. The potential interference metal ions commonly present freshwaters assessed no significant differences (<10%) were observed, except manganese. This overcome by adding manganese reagent, thus acting fixed strategy. limit detection quantification 6.3 21.1 µg L−1, respectively. applied certified water samples results agreement with values. Additionally, successfully spiked those obtained reference method.
